I attended the annual leadership conference of the Prince's Teaching Institute, of which we are a member, on 7 and 8 February at Madingley Hall, University of Cambridge. About 35 head teachers were involved and on 8 February we were joined by HRH The Prince of Wales and the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education.
Five boys from Desborough took part in the Dance Festival at the Magnet Leisure Centre on 8 and 9 February. The festival was attended by groups from over 20 primary schools from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and secondary dance groups from Newlands and Desborough Schools. The event was organised by Emma Fitgerald, who is based at Desborough. I watched the event on 9 February and our group were brilliant. They danced with pupils from Woodlands Park School. Well done to: Siyande Khanye (Y9), Takudzwa Mukahiwa (Y9), Detdamrong Tedsen (Y9), Peter James Crocombe (Y8) and Thulani Pilime (Y8).
On 2 February the U12s played a football cup 1 match against Little Heath and lost 0-7. On 8 February, the U16s played a hockey County Cup match against Bradfield College and lost 0-4. On 8 February the U16s played a County Cup hockey match against Eton College and the score was 1-3. C Turner was our scorer. On 8 February the U16s played a County Cup hockey match against Pangbourne College and lost 0-1. Well done to all the players in these teams.
In the Maidenhead Advertiser on 9 February, Tom Judd, Dominic Langley and Warrick Heath were featured in an article about their Anti-Binge Drinking Anthem which was part of a dramatic production called "Last Orders". The Director of Music, Peter Torrent, said the messages in this production hit home and it was a very life like production. Well done to the 3 Desborough School pupils for getting involved.
I hope you all have a really good holiday.
Yours sincerely
Andrew Linnell

Gail Emms is a British badminton player who, along with her badminton partner Nathan Robertson, has been No.1 in the world at mixed doubles, all England Champion, Commonwealth gold medallist and Olympic silver medallist. She has also achieved a great deal individually at international level.

The BBC were here during the day supporting our BBC School Report Team in interviewing Gail Emms. Mrs Hughes did a fine job coordinating their efforts and we look forward to seeing and hearing the results.
It was a brilliant opportunity for many of our pupils to meet such a high profile sportswoman as Gail Emms. At Desborough School we have a rich tradition in playing competitive sports at the highest level and badminton is no different. Gail made such a positive impression and inspired us all. We are very grateful for the generous amount of time Gail spent with us. We thought she really made a wonderful ambassador for badminton and will, we hope, inspire our pupils to go to the next level in their chosen sport. Our thanks to Miss Fitzgerald and Mr Bielby for making this visit happen.
House System
Last term saw Desborough School re-launch their House System within the school, by introducing an innovative League Table designed to motivate the students to achieve more from their experience of school life at Desborough. This has culminated in a series of exciting rewards for the top pupils from each house in all year groups at the end of every month.

This month saw Altitude Events, working with the Ascot & Maidenhead School Sport Partnership now based at Desborough School, bringing a huge Human Table Football game to the school on Thursday 8th December enabling the top four performing students in the House System in every year group to try a different or unusual sport, in a safe and appropriate environment under the supervision of their fully qualified instructors. Read more in the December newsletter here.
