School Librarian: Mrs A Hallissey

What is the Learning Resource Centre?

The Learning Resource Centre is our name for the school library. You will be able to use it throughout your time at Desborough to find information to help you with your school work, to read newspapers and magazines, to borrow books and DVDs, to work on the computers or to use the printer. During your first year here you will be taught how to make the best use of all the resources that we have, so that you can quickly and easily find the books or information you need.

What is in the LRC?

There is a lending library of approx 9000 books, newspapers, reference books e.g. dictionaries, CDs, DVDs, computers (10 networked and 6 laptops), 6 Kindles for use in the LRC, a colour printer, magazines related to school work eg Wide World and magazines for interest eg Four Four Two.

When can I use the LRC?

Click here for opening hours

What can I borrow?

  • 3 books for 2 weeks
  • 1 CD for 2 weeks (small fee charged)
  • 1 DVD for 2 nights (small fee charged)

You will now NOT need a library card to borrow resources from the LRC, but you WILL need either a train pass, a Windsor and Maidenhead Advantage card or your homework diary. This is so we can match either your photo or your name to our library computer record.

What happens if I return something late?

You must take care of the items you borrow and return them on time. If they are late, you will be sent a reminder and charged a fine. Fines for books are currently 2p per day and fines for late CD and DVDs  are 10p per day.

What happens if I lost an item I have borrowed?

You will be charged the cost of its repair (if that is possible) or its replacement.

Remember - books, CDs, and DVDs cost a lot of money - so please enjoy them and look after them.

We look forward to seeing you on a regular basis, if you have any questions feel free to ask Mrs Leedale or Mrs Hallissey
