At Desborough College, we see the curriculum as the entirety of a student’s learning journey. It encompasses everything students learn, experience and develop during their time at the College, both inside and beyond the classroom. Our curriculum is built around five complementary strands: Academic, Vocational, Enrichment, Pastoral and PSHCE. Together, these strands provide a broad and balanced education that recognises that success means more than examination results alone. We want every student to leave Desborough with the knowledge, skills, experiences, and personal qualities needed to make a positive contribution and thrive in the next stage of their lives.
Our Academic Curriculum provides students with the essential knowledge and subject-specific skills that enable them to progress successfully into further education, employment and their chosen fields. Alongside this, our Vocational Curriculum provides opportunities to develop practical skills and understand the world of work; Enrichment broadens students’ experiences and encourages them to discover new interests and talents; Pastoral provision supports student wellbeing, relationships and emotional development; and PSHCE helps students develop the knowledge and understanding needed to navigate adult life with confidence and responsibility. We consider each of these strands to be equally important. Together, they develop not only what students know, but who they are and what they are capable of becoming.
This holistic approach reflects our Dream and Endeavour mission. We want our students to be ambitious — to have the confidence to dream, to set themselves challenging goals and to imagine the positive difference they can make. Just as importantly, we want them to have the character and determination to endeavour: to work hard, embrace challenge, think creatively and critically, build positive connections and show resilience when things do not go to plan. Our curriculum provides the experiences and opportunities through which these qualities can develop, preparing students not simply to achieve at Desborough, but to flourish in adult and working life and to make a meaningful contribution to the communities in which they live.
