Enrichment Curriculum

At Desborough College, we believe that excellence is achieved through enrichment. An outstanding education extends well beyond the confines of the classroom, and our enrichment curriculum is therefore an integral part of the educational experience we offer rather than an additional ‘add-on’. In keeping with our mission to encourage every young person to Dream and Endeavour, we seek to cultivate intellectual curiosity, character, confidence and a genuine appreciation of the world beyond our College. We place enrichment alongside academic study because we believe that a truly holistic education should develop the whole person: intellectually, socially, culturally and ethically, preparing our students not simply to achieve, but to lead purposeful and fulfilling lives.

Our commitment to this breadth of education is reflected in six dedicated Deep Learning Days towards the end of each half term.
Three Ethical Leaders Days provide students with the opportunity to encounter the richness of our cultural and intellectual heritage through visits to significant venues, including galleries and museums, as well as through carefully curated workshops and immersive experiences. These opportunities enable students to encounter ideas, people, places and perspectives beyond the conventional classroom, bringing their studies to life and often igniting interests and passions for their subjects that can shape their future aspirations. Examples of visits for this year include the Tower of London, Warner Brothers Studios, and Brooklands Museum.

Our three House Rewards Days provide a complementary emphasis on fellowship, service and celebration, with students coming together through social activities, charitable endeavour, and opportunities to recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of others. In this way, enrichment becomes a natural extension of our academic curriculum and an important means through which our values are lived. Examples of visits this year include Black Park and Thorpe Park.

We are equally committed to ensuring that this breadth of opportunity is available to every student. Some experiences may involve a voluntary contribution, while others are offered free of charge; however, we will always seek to secure preferential rates, negotiate discounts and provide financial support wherever possible. Our programme will also retain a range of free of charge opportunities so that every student can participate in a stimulating and rewarding experience across all six days. As the programme develops, we will introduce an increasingly rich programme of international enrichment opportunities, drawing upon the expertise, interests and talents beyond our own community. We look forward to sharing the continued development of this distinctive aspect of a Desborough education and, in doing so, ensuring that our students have every opportunity to broaden their horizons, discover their passions and endeavour with a smile.
