Recognising Dream and Endeavour
Our rewards system recognises and celebrates the behaviours, attitudes and progress that reflect the values at the heart of Desborough College. We recognise effort and individual progress as well as achievement, ensuring every student has the opportunity to experience success. Points are not intended to be transactional, but to provide meaningful encouragement as students develop their own intrinsic motivation, character and confidence. Individual points also contribute to House totals, reinforcing a sense of belonging, collective responsibility, and shared success.
Recognition is embedded throughout the school year. At the end of each half term, House Assemblies celebrate students’ contributions through certificates and trophies, with House Captains playing an important role in encouraging participation and pride within their Houses. Alongside this, our On-the-Spot Recognition initiative enables staff to acknowledge positive behaviour and the demonstration of our school values through postcards and associated rewards, such as afternoon tea, cooked breakfasts, and hot chocolate with staff; creating opportunities for students to share their successes with their families.
At the end of the academic year, our Round Table Student Awards Evening provides a special opportunity to celebrate students with their families, staff, governors, Trust colleagues, The Old Maidonians and members of our local community. The evening recognises not only outstanding achievement, but also character, commitment, progress and contribution. Through our approach to recognition, we want every student to feel valued, to take pride in their journey and to develop the resilience and confidence to pursue their dreams.
Special Awards
Our end-of-year Special Awards celebrate excellence across the curriculum while drawing inspiration from the rich history and traditions of Desborough College. We have revived the names and colours of our original Houses, alongside introducing new ones, creating a meaningful connection between our past and the achievements of our students today. Each award celebrates outstanding accomplishment within a particular area of learning — from Brunel for Engineering, Science, Maths and ICT, to Dickins for Languages, Constable for Art and Technology, Elgar for Music and Drama, Keynes for Business, Economics and Psychology, Lord Desborough for Sport, and Colin Cutler for the Humanities. Together, these awards recognise the breadth of talent, dedication and achievement across the College.
