At Desborough College, we believe that every young person can achieve, regardless of their background, starting point or circumstances. Our commitment to Dream and Endeavour means that we hold high expectations for every student and seek to understand the individual strengths, needs and aspirations of each young person. We recognise that students learn in different ways and may require different levels or types of support to fulfil their potential. Our approach to SEND is therefore rooted in inclusion, ambition, and the belief that the right support, combined with excellent teaching and positive relationships, can enable every student to thrive.
We take an individual approach to identifying and supporting special educational needs and disabilities. Students' needs are carefully assessed and appropriate provision is put in place, which may include adaptations and support within the classroom, small-group provision, or targeted one-to-one intervention. Our teaching staff work closely with our Learning Support Team to ensure that students can access the curriculum and develop as confident, independent learners. Progress is closely monitored, and we work in partnership with parents and carers to review provision and ensure that support continues to reflect each student's needs and development.
Our commitment to wellbeing and personal development is an important part of our SEND provision. Through our wider pastoral structure, including dedicated Form Tutors, House membership and bespoke mentoring through the Hub Team, we seek to ensure that students feel known, valued and that they belong. Where a student's needs extend beyond the support we can provide within our College, we work closely with families and appropriate external agencies to secure additional expertise and support. This may include Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Autism support, counselling, and other specialist services. For students who have English as an additional language, we also provide appropriate support to develop fluency, comprehension and confidence in using English.
Ultimately, our aim is not simply to remove barriers to learning, but to help every student discover what they are capable of achieving. We want students with SEND to develop the same ambition, confidence and resilience as all our students, while recognising that their journey may look different. Through high-quality teaching, personalised support, and strong partnerships between students, families, staff, and external professionals, we encourage every young person to Dream and then to Endeavour — working hard, embracing challenge, learning from setbacks and taking pride in their progress and achievements.
