At Desborough College, our Sixth Form curriculum is designed for students who are ready to embrace academic rigour, intellectual challenge and genuine academic curiosity. We want our students not simply to learn more, but to think more deeply, ask better questions and develop the confidence to engage with ideas beyond the confines of the examination specification. Our curriculum provides the opportunity to study subjects in considerable depth while developing the critical thinking, independence, communication and analytical skills that will serve students well at university, in their chosen careers and throughout their lives. We have a mixture of both A level and vocational courses on offer to suit future aspirations, with scope for students to combine both types of courses as part of their curriculum choices. In keeping with our mission to Dream and Endeavour, we encourage students to pursue their academic interests with ambition, discipline and a genuine love of learning.
A Desborough Sixth Form education extends well beyond the classroom and the formal curriculum. Students are encouraged to make the most of a wide range of academic enrichment, super-curricular and wider learning opportunities, from lectures, seminars and subject-specific activities to independent research, competitions, cultural experiences and opportunities to explore areas of interest beyond their chosen courses. Reading is central to this experience. We expect students to read widely and regularly, using books, journals, essays and other high-quality sources to deepen their understanding, encounter different perspectives and develop their own intellectual voice. Through this breadth of opportunity, we seek to develop young people who are curious, articulate and intellectually confident — students who do not simply know more, but who have developed the habits of mind to question, evaluate, create and contribute.
