The Year 10 Basketball Team won their match against Windsor Boys' School on 19 January 2013. The final result was 58 - 39. Suleman Jarral played a great inside game and the whole team really played well. The School is now through to the play offs.
The Under 14 Football Team beat Park House School, Newbury by 4 - 1 on 23 January. Goals were scored by: S.Ford, L.Hollow, A.Atkinson and S.McCormack. The Under 18 Football Team beat Reading School 3 - 2 on 25 January. Goals were scored by: B.Blackmore, N.Avery and C.Evans. It is also nice when one is a headteacher to beat a team from a school where you were formerly the headteacher (and also where Mr Hamilton, the Curriculum Leader for PE & Games also used to teach)!
The U12B Hockey Team drew 0 - 0 and the U12A Hocket Team lost 1 -3 against Claires Court School on 26 January 2013. Well done to all those involved and thanks to the members of staff who have coached the teams.
Dr Dan Jacoby ( a member of the Governing Body) has been working with Mr Ravetta and Mr Budge on helping design House badges, icons and logos. There has been a workshop after an initial meeting and the boys' ideas have been developed to produce some wonderful draft designs. We have now gained support from students who are studying in the Typography and Graphic Communication Department of the University of Reading. We are aiming to have the final designs for each house ready for the summer Sports' Day.
Yours sincerely
Andrew Linnell

Gail Emms is a British badminton player who, along with her badminton partner Nathan Robertson, has been No.1 in the world at mixed doubles, all England Champion, Commonwealth gold medallist and Olympic silver medallist. She has also achieved a great deal individually at international level.

The BBC were here during the day supporting our BBC School Report Team in interviewing Gail Emms. Mrs Hughes did a fine job coordinating their efforts and we look forward to seeing and hearing the results.
It was a brilliant opportunity for many of our pupils to meet such a high profile sportswoman as Gail Emms. At Desborough School we have a rich tradition in playing competitive sports at the highest level and badminton is no different. Gail made such a positive impression and inspired us all. We are very grateful for the generous amount of time Gail spent with us. We thought she really made a wonderful ambassador for badminton and will, we hope, inspire our pupils to go to the next level in their chosen sport. Our thanks to Miss Fitzgerald and Mr Bielby for making this visit happen.
Last term saw Desborough School re-launch their House System within the school, by introducing an innovative League Table designed to motivate the students to achieve more from their experience of school life at Desborough. This has culminated in a series of exciting rewards for the top pupils from each house in all year groups at the end of every month.

This month saw Altitude Events, working with the Ascot & Maidenhead School Sport Partnership now based at Desborough School, bringing a huge Human Table Football game to the school on Thursday 8th December enabling the top four performing students in the House System in every year group to try a different or unusual sport, in a safe and appropriate environment under the supervision of their fully qualified instructors. Read more in the December newsletter here.
